Have y’all seen that humorous commercial where a famous actor acts like somebody else, usually in a harsh and overbearing way, and then eats a Snickers candy bar??  What happens??  All of a sudden, like “magic”, he becomes himself again because “you’re not yourself when you’re hungry”!!  The commercials always bring a smile to my face.  But one day it hit me, these commercials meant to sell candy bars to the public actually have a spiritual truth to them.

God intended us to be fed and nourished spiritually.  God says in Deuteronomy 8:3 that “man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”  We LIVE by God’s Word – it’s our spiritual food and nourishment!!  And just as we don’t act right when we get physically hungry, we also don’t act right when we get spiritually hungry.  And for some of us, we are spiritually starving, because it’s been days, weeks, months, or even years since we were last nourished by God’s Word.

Maybe, just maybe, some of the mental, spiritual, emotional, psychological, and even physical issues we struggle with are due to spiritual malnutrition.  If that is a possibility, why not try some spiritual nourishment today.  Listen to a sermon (not all sermons are boring – lol).  Read a chapter in the Bible.  Listen to the Bible on recording.  Go to a Bible study with other believers.  Whatever you got to do to get fed, go and do it!!  Because, you simply aren’t yourself when you are hungry!!  And what’s worse, just like you die when you go long enough without physical nourishment, you die spiritually when you go long enough without spiritual nourishment.  Remember to feed that which is eternal at least as much as you are going to feed that which is going to die one day.  Thanks for considering, everybody!!  Now go and eat!!  🙂
